V2 motor is dead... Time for a Tesla motor! See V3 Build!

Revision 3

The first EV Boxster S did not perform as well as we'd hoped - she had consistent problems with short range and overheating. So after a year of planning and building, the car was back, better than ever. With a larger battery and a new motor controller, she could burn rubber in a straight line and travel over 90 miles on a charge.

But then... the Siemens motor died. Output shaft sheared off. A great excuse to upgrade to Tesla and the Openinverter board! Hop on over the V3 Build page for some early pictures.

EV Boxster S

Portia is a 2000 Boxster S in Arctic Silver. She is lightweight, aerodynamic and pretty.
She has Nissan Leaf batteries, a Siemens 1PV5135 motor and Azure Dynamics DMOC645 inverter.
Range is estimated at 65 miles.
The project has cost about $17,000 so far; $3500 for the car.
(Umm, this cost is going up with the Tesla build. We'll see where it ends up.)
Here's a quick video of the first version!
